1 John 2: How to Know that We Know God

“But whoso keepeth His word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in Him.” (1 John 2:5)

We’ve already done a beginner-level study in 1 John 1, and a more in-depth study of 1 John 3, and we’re looking forward to this study of 1 John 2, a chapter which contains a lot of repetition.

As we read and get into this chapter, we will see that John repeats words and ideas for a good reason. We’re going to mark some words and find out what John wants to tell us.

We’ll also look at a number of contrasts in this chapter: light and dark, lies and truth, love and hate, what we say and how we walk.

Studying this chapter will help us look for evidence that we’ve been saved by God through faith, and to see what happens when someone really comes to know God and His love.
