In Isaiah 55 God extends an invitation that is almost too good to be true. But it is true and it reveals the great mercy and compassion of God as He calls us to come and satisfy our thirst in Him. He invites us, in our poverty, to dine at His expense “that our souls may live,”
“Why do you spend your money on that which is not bread and your labor for that which does not satisfy?” God asks. Why are you looking for satisfaction in things that will never fully satisfy? Come to Me and truly live.
Isaiah prophesied to a rebellious people, people God would eventually send into exile in Babylon, but people He loved and would never abandon. Isaiah 55 is a promise of hope and forgiveness and rich blessing for those who turn and seek God.
As we focus our study on Chapter 55 of Isaiah, we will also be reading Chapters 53 and 54, where we see who paid the price for the feast God offers.
We’ll look for answers to questions:
- Who is invited to this feast?
- What does God offer to those who accept His invitation?
- How can God freely offer such blessing to those who cannot (and never could) pay for them?
- How do we receive these blessings?
- What does it mean to seek the Lord?
As we study, we’ll be reminded anew of God’s never-ending love and infinite grace that is ever ready to forgive and bless those who turn to Him in faith.
