Philippians 3: That I May Gain Christ

We say and believe that we are saved by faith in Christ’s work on the cross. And yet we easily slip into putting our confidence in the things that we do.

Paul experienced this, and he urges us to put this attitude behind us. Whatever we do, however we think we can earn God’s approval, is rubbish.

God loves us, He approves of us, because of Christ. Because we are in Christ.

In Philippians 3, Paul challenges us to press forward into Christ, to know Him and treasure Him.

“But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ…” (Phil. 3:7-8 ESV)
