“For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken.” (Psalm 62:1-2, ESV)
Imagine being able to say, “I shall not be shaken,” when faced with suffering or loss, slander or persecution, unknowns or injustice!
David, a man after God’s own heart, knew all about suffering. Pursued by a jealous king, hiding in caves, fleeing for his life, living with the consequences of his sinful choices, losing a child, dealing with strife amongst his children, betrayed by his own son, persecuted, mocked and more – but still he could say with confidence, “I shall not be shaken.”
Let’s look at Psalm 62 – really look at it – and discover the source of David’s confidence. How could he remain unshaken in the midst of so much pain and uncertainty?
We’re going to use some simple tools that will help us slow down and see what is in the text.
- We’ll read the psalm in different translations.
- We’ll use colored pencils to mark specific words.
- We’ll make lists.
- We’ll draw some simple pictures to help us meditate on what we’re reading.

Wait For God
By: Susan Menzmer
What a wonderful study! Spend a month looking closer at Psalm 62 than you have most likely ever looked at it before. It is rich with treasure for you! Be reminded of where your true help is—and it is not from possessions or other people! Acknowledge that you yourself are weak. Learn that you have a mighty Rock to stand on, a Fortress to hide in, and Salvation that is freely given to you. Learn that God—and God alone—is your help, and even when it appears to YOUR eyes that nothing is happening, He is worth waiting for!

When listening to the song I was reminded again that our God is totally trustworthy – with our thoughts, hopes, family, present and future.
Only….. my soul waits for God only. Only from God does my salvation come.
Yes! Only stood out to me as well.
He alone IS my Rock.
My word was REFUGE.
